The Osage Nation Family Violence Prevention (ONFVP) Department has increased beneficial statistics.  Through comprehensive process improvement, a newly hired Domestic Violence (DV) Advocate has enhanced communication and follow-up procedures with local law enforcement and court systems.

Corrie O’Banion was hired as a temporary employee in April 2021.  She transferred officially in August 2021 into the full-time role of ON DV Advocate II.  As she stepped into her position, she examined the processes and procedures, reaching out to local law enforcement, including the Osage County Sheriff’s Department, ONPD, Pawhuska Police Department, Hominy Police Department, and Skiatook Police Department. The results? ONFVP now has 64 active clients and 30 active protective orders and connected hearings.  There are also currently 15 associated criminal charges.

Brett Mize, First Assistant District Attorney for Osage and Pawnee County, commented, “Domestic violence victims are often conditioned to become isolated from friends and family – that’s why it is so crucial to have advocates who will stay in contact and support victims from the time of reporting domestic violence to the time cases go to Court.  Corrie and I have worked closely on several cases and I very much appreciate her dedication to helping victims of domestic violence navigate the legal system and remain safe in the process.  Corrie and the District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Coordinator Brandy Baker have direct lines of communication that have proven repeatedly beneficial to successful prosecutions of domestic violence offenders in state court.  I look forward to continuing to work with Corrie to ensure domestic violence offenders are held accountable and all victims are protected by the law.”
