Financial literacy workshops, held in the high school, are beneficial for the Osage Nation and the school district. One of the priorities discussed in the 25-Year Strategic Plan is to, “Provide more Osage access to financial resources for education.” There is a high population of Osage students enrolled in the Pawhuska School District. Any work done within their school day is sure to engage several tribal youths. The high school meets one of its goals, as well. Oklahoma students, in grades 9-12, are required to participate in career and academic planning activities in order to become prepared for the future. Individuals need to understand how to manage their money in order to achieve independence and reach their goals.

The Osage Nation Education Department and Tri County Tech provided financial training for students at Pawhuska High School. Twenty-six participants enjoyed a free lunch and a presentation that featured budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, and cost comparison topics. The partnership with the public schools in the Osage Nation service area will continue throughout the year. The second course is scheduled for November 9, 2022. Additional “Smart Money Programs” will begin at Hominy and Woodland High School this fall.
