It's WIC and Senior Farmers' Market Season

WIC Farmers' Market

Each year from June through September, Osage Nation WIC administers the WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Programs. The mission of the programs is to promote locally grown food and build a community where we work and live.  The USDA Farmers’ Market supports the local economy, increases marketing opportunities for farmers and small businesses, provides access to an assortment of local and regional sourced products and increases access to healthy, affordable fresh food in our surrounding communities.

Who is eligible?

WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) participants are eligible if they are currently enrolled with a WIC program in Oklahoma.  FMNP serves women, infants over 4 months old, and children 1-5 years of age. Vouchers (similar to checks) are issued (one time per year) to participants in five-dollar increments, for a total of six vouchers totaling $30 that must be redeemed within 30 days with participating farmers.

Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) participants must be low-income seniors age 60 and older or Native Americans 55 years of age and older who meet income guidelines and live in Oklahoma. Vouchers (similar to checks) are issued (one time per year) to individuals in five-dollar increments for a total of ten vouchers totaling $50 that must be redeemed within 30 days with participating farmers. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, seniors can also purchase honey.

Participants in each program are provided a list of participating farmers, a schedule of dates and locations, a list of eligible foods, and nutrition and education materials.

Electronic applications are available for FMNP and SFMNP participants on the WIC website https://www.osagenation-nsn.gov/services/women-infants-children-program and can be filled out on the day of the farmers’ market event.

Osage Nation is one of only three WIC FMNP in Oklahoma and one of four SFMNP in Oklahoma that administer these programs. For more information, visit the Osage Nation WIC website https://www.osagenation-nsn.gov/services/women-infants-children-program, Osage Nation W.I.C.
