Pawhuska, Okla. (6/13/2018) – The Osage Nation Museum (ONM) and Osage Nation STEAM Program are collaborating to launch an Osage Youth Open Mic Series.  The Open Mic is welcoming performers ages 10-24 years old to share their artistic talents.  The first ever Open Mic provides an opportunity for the youth in our community to perform for an audience of their peers.  Youth are welcome to read poems, short stories, or other written works, share and talk about their artwork, perform stand-up comedy, and more.  All art forms are welcome.
The first Open Mic will be held On Saturday, July 21stfrom 2:00 -5:00 pm at the Osage Nation Museum (819 Grandview Ave., Pawhuska, OK 74056).  Admission is free and open to the public.  Prior registration is required.  Interested individuals can contact Jennifer Holding at Jholding@osagenation-nsn.govor by phone at 918-287-5300 for more information. Performers must register by July 13th.  Osage preference will be given.  No registration is required for those who just want to attend and not perform.
The Open Mic stage is the developing artists’ playground. Fostering a sense of safety and encouragement, this event empowers our community’s youth to use art as a means of sharing their thoughts, their struggles, their triumphs, and their pride as they assert their place in this ever-complicated world. For many young people in our community, it is an essential tool in the forging of their identities.
