Osage Nation Wildland Fire Launches Fire-Wise Program to Provide Free Wildfire Risk Home Evaluations for Osage Nation Reservation Residents

2025 Fire Wise Flyer

The Osage Nation Wildland Fire Prevention Department proudly announces the launch of the first-ever FIRE-WISE Program, offering no-cost wildfire risk reduction evaluations to all residents of the Osage Nation Reservation.

"Wildfires hold the potential to impact countless individuals, homes, livestock, and land," states Ross Shimonek, Wildland Fire Prevention Specialist for the Osage Nation. "It is our shared responsibility to protect our communities, and this program is designed to empower each of us in that mission."

During the risk evaluation, the team from Osage Nation Wildland Fire Prevention will assess vulnerabilities around your home that could serve as ignition sources, such as firebrands, ember-wash, radiant heat, and direct flames. The evaluation will also consider emergency vehicle access, the structure itself, and the surrounding vegetation. After completing the assessment, you will receive a detailed report highlighting any vulnerabilities and offering actionable recommendations for improvement.

It is important to remember that while these wildfire risk reduction actions are aimed at significantly lowering the potential for fire, they cannot completely eliminate the risk. A certain degree of wildfire risk will always exist, regardless of the precautions taken or the property's characteristics.

To register, please visit the Osage Nation Wildland Fire web page and complete the necessary form. An Osage Nation Wildland Fire Prevention team member will contact you with any additional questions or schedule an evaluation. For questions, please email wildlandfire@osagenation-nsn.gov.
