Hominy Wellness Center Ribbon Cutting May 24

Open to the Public - Newest Osage Nation Fitness and Wellness Facility to Serve Hominy Community Healthy Lifestyle Needs

Hominy, Okla., (Wednesday, May 16, 2018)—The Osage Nation (ON) Hominy Wellness Center will host a ribbon cutting at noon on Thursday, May 24th2018 for their new site and larger building located on the south side of Hominy at 1105 S. Eastern on Highway 99. Construction for the new facility started in late November 2017.

The new building is 4,490 square feet and features more wellness focused components like a diabetic foot clinic area. The purpose of the new and improved site falls in line with two of ON Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear’s goals for the ON, “develop a comprehensive healthcare system” and “promote healthy communities through wellness initiatives and partnerships.”

“This wellness center will feature a more functional fitness approach rather than commercial fitness including an exam room for clinical purposes, a diabetic foot clinic area, and multi-use fitness room used for classes,” said Hank Powell, Supervisor for all three Osage Nation Wellness Centers.

There are two more ON Wellness Centers on the ON Reservation located in Pawhuska and Fairfax. The new Fairfax Wellness Center is scheduled to break ground on Wednesday, May 23rdat noon at 255 N. 1stStreet, Fairfax, Okla. 74637. All are welcome and encouraged to attend both events.

Funding for the site was successfully applied for by the ON Grants Department who wrote to HUD about the need for the larger updated site, “The current facility is too small and not cost effective…Providing Hominy area residents with a year-round, climate-controlled location that is nearby to learn about healthy lifestyles and participate in physical activities gives them the opportunity to improve their health.”

The ON Hominy Wellness Center hours of operationare7am to 8pm Monday through Friday and 7:30am to 12pm on Saturday and will open for business as usual after the conclusion of the ribbon cutting on May 24th. All Osage Nation tribal members may use the Wellness Center free of charge with proof of tribal membership. The rate for non-tribal members and ON employees is $15 per month, no down payment, with additional packages based on length of membership.
