Chief Standing Bear Signs Law Stating Osage Nation Congress Appropriates Federal Funds

Press Release

Executive and Legislative Branches to work jointly for American Rescue Plan Act spending

[PAWHUSKA, OKLA., Thursday, May 27, 2021] – Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear signs a bill into law brought forth by the Osage Nation Congress requiring that all federal/non-tribal funds be appropriated by the Osage Nation Congress before expenditure. The law is in response to the Osage Nation receiving $108 million through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The Osage Nation Executive and Legislative branches are committed to ARPA funds being used to support on-going and future tribal projects to benefit the Osage Nation and its constituents.

“By this legislation, the Osage Congress will appropriate all money from the American Rescue Plan Act,” said Chief Standing Bear. “I am signing this legislation with the assurance from the Osage congress that we will work together expeditiously for the benefit of the Osage people.”

Due to specific ARPA funding criteria, Osage Nation’s COVID Task Force and legal counsel is currently reviewing the 151-page interim rules document.
