Osage Nation begins Youth Initiative Programs

Pawhuska, Okla. (Mar. 3, 2015) – The Osage Nation knows the future of our county, state, and nation lie in the hands of our youth, indigenous and non-indigenous. Therefore, the Osage Nation through a collaborative agreement has developed a year-round coeducational program for Native American and other ethnic youths: Adventurer and Ranger Posts for ages 13 to 20. Agency partnerships include:

  • Boys Scouts of America (B.S.A.) Cherokee Area Council

  • Osage Nation Counseling Center

  • Osage Nation TASC

  • Osage Nation Police Department

  • Osage Emergency Management

  • Osage Nation Communities of Excellence

  • Osage County Office of Juvenile Affairs

The scout-affiliated programs are designed to promote career-education and opportunities. These programs also seek to improve social interactions and health, as well as, provide recreational time.

Osage Nation Counseling Center and its affiliate TASC will present career educational prospects in social work.

Osage Nation Police Department will focus on law enforcement careers with an emphasis on:

  • Tribal law;

  • Practical strategies; and

  • Involvement with competitions which are designed to improve law enforcement and community relations.

Osage Nation Emergency Management will focus on careers in the fields of land management, firefighting, and fire control.

Osage Nation Communities of Excellence will provide information on environmental career goals as well as in the area of health and nutrition.

The B.S.A. has generously offered their expertise and use of their outdoor activity opportunities:

  • Camping;

  • Rappelling;

  • Target shooting;

  • Hiking; and

  • Various other healthy, recreational prospects.

Osage Nation Executive Branch has enhanced these programs by proposing an Osage Nation Youth Council. This is designed to allow the Nation’s youth to learn about- and have a voice in- governmental issues related to adolescence.

Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm will be an Adult Training Session for anyone interested in becoming an adult advisor. The location will be at Osage Nation Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center, 1449 West Main, Pawhuska, OK. There will be a cost of $24 to cover activity insurance for one year.

Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 7:00pm will be a group meeting for anyone interested in joining as a Youth member. The location will at Osage Nation Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center, 1449 West Main, Pawhuska, OK. There will be a cost of $24 for one year.
