Osage Nation, Pawhuska, Okla. (Apr. 9, 2015)—The Osage Nation’s Cultural Center located in Pawhuska, Oklahoma is hosting a public event Saturday, April 18 at 10:00am. The guest lecturer will be University of Tulsa Professor Garrick Bailey.

A native Oklahoman, his main interest has been in Osage cultural adaptation with such publications as The Osage and the Invisible World, Traditions of the Osage, and Art of the Osage with Dan Swan, curator of the Sam Noble Museum with the University of Oklahoma, as well as John Nunley and Sean Standing Bear.

The Saturday morning event is a discussion with the professor. “At the beginning of the twentieth century, Francis La Flesche, an Omaha, recorded and translated many of the teachings of the ancient Osage Wak-Kon-Da-Ge or Men of Mystery. With the adoption of the peyote religion the actual We-Gi-E ad Wa-Thon of the Ancient Men were abandoned. However, I will argue the basic ideas incorporated in these teachings were not forgotten. Only by understanding these basic ideas, can one understand how the Osage culture adapted and why the Osage have survived as a people until the present day.”

The public is invited to the morning discussion which will be held at:
