Our mission is to address the issues causing chronic disease within the Osage people and residents of Osage County. We will accomplish this by educating the citizens in healthy lifestyles and the process of disease prevention through healthy food choices, exercise, and being tobacco-free.

"Creating a New Path toward Community Health"

  • Vision Statement:  Our vision is to create a community-wide movement that will encourage all residents of Osage County to adopt healthy lifestyles by eating better, moving more, and being tobacco-free. Through a spirit of collaboration and cooperation between community organizations, tribal departments, and residents of Osage County, change in quality health issues can be achieved.
  • Values Statement: As a department, and as individuals, we value integrity, honesty, openness, personal excellence, constructive self-criticism, continual self-improvement, and mutual respect. We shall embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we address our community needs; we will strive to provide the highest standard of excellence in our service to the community.

To accomplish our mission statement we follow the Communities of Excellence model with the following benefits:

  • Grassroots involvement – Communities of Excellence is about engaging local coalitions and collaborative partners to reflect upon where you have been and assess where you as a community want, and need, to go. Past history demonstrates that involving the community is essential to achieving lasting community normality changes that are “owned” by the community.
  • Local focus – Communities of Excellence focuses at the community level. With local data, communities can be confident in the course of action they plan. Local policy makers are also, more receptive to new policies if their need can be backed up with local data. Significant and cutting-edge policies typically occur on a larger scale throughout Osage County after a grounds-well of support is demonstrated by a local enactment of policies.

  • Systematic collection and strategic use of local data – Communities of Excellence focuses on using local data as much as possible to drive decision making while recognizing that there may not always be local data for every indicator. Planning is an art, not a science. It is important to justify decisions, but it is equally important not to become overwhelmed by a wealth of data or paralyzed by a lack of specific data.
