PAWHUSKA, Okla. (August 18, 2016) – Native American elders received a meal kit with enough food for twelve meals and a case of water yesterday afternoon from the Osage Nation Title VI Elder Nutrition Program following a boil water order issued by the City of Pawhuska on Friday. Title VI was not able to prepare or serve their regular lunch menu on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The boil order was issued late Friday and Pawhuska residents and businesses were notified that E.coli was discovered in the city’s water supply. The advisory was lifted late Tuesday evening after further testing revealed the threat of exposure was gone.

On Sunday, the Osage Nation Director of Operations, Casey Johnson, worked with Osage Nation service programs for children and elders to determine the best course of action for safety. Osage Nation Communications and Emergency Management issued several notices via social media and text alerts to notify constituents of any changes and updates. Children’s services were not interrupted.

On Wednesday morning, Johnson issued another announcement stating that the Elder Nutrition Program began regular meal deliveries and food preparation today. The first meal on the menu was meatloaf.
